EHA in the BioMed Alliance: joining forces for biomedical research
EHA is an active member of the Alliance for Biomedical Research in Europe (BioMed Alliance), in which Europe’s leading medical societies have joined forces to represent the interests of over 400,000 researchers and health professionals.
At a recent meeting at the European Parliament, Prof. Ulrich Jäger, chair of EHA’s European Affairs committee and a member of the BioMed Alliance board, presented the findings of an alliance survey on Horizon 2020, the EU’s research funding program. While H2020 is generally considered successful in boosting cooperative research in Europe, a number of improvements to the ‘health calls’ under Horizon 2020 were recommended. Among the key recommendations are a reduction in the number of 2nd round proposals (due to the low success rate of stage 2 applications) and a broadening of the scope for clinical research in future calls.
EHA played a leading role in carrying out the BioMed Alliance survey. Prof. Jäger’s presentation of the findings can be found here.
