How would you treat a 56-year-old woman complaining of the recent onset of quite extensive mild bruising on her thighs and abdominal wall who denies taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or any other medication?
She underwent a cholecystectomy over twenty years ago without problems. Her family history provided no further insight.

Prothrombin time 28 seconds (normal control, 12 seconds); INR 2.7 Normal results for APTT, skin bleeding time, platelet aggregometry and assays of factor VIIIc and vWD ristocetin cofactor.
