Honorary Awards

EHA honors outstanding physicians and scientists for their contribution to the advancement in hematology.

EHA introduced the EHA - José Carreras Award in 1999, in collaboration with the José Carreras Foundation, and the EHA Jean Bernard Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.

Every year, the EHA Board selects the winner of the EHA - José Carreras Award and the EHA Jean Bernard Lifetime Achievement Award. Both awards are presented at the EHA Annual Congress.

Unique at the 17th Congress of EHA is the Amsterdam Young Scientist Award (AYSA), which was handed to Dr Niccolò Bolli.

AYSA contributes to the promotion and support of 'Amsterdam as a City of Knowledge'. This prize was presented by Mr Frans van den Avert from the research platform Nieuw Amsterdams Peil Initiatief (NAP Initiative). The aim of the AYSA is to distinguish Amsterdam from other European cities as a City of Knowledge.
