EHA Research Fellowships & The José Carreras Foundation-EHA Young Investigator Fellowship
The EHA Research Fellowships promote high-quality European research in hematology by supporting outstanding junior basic, clinical and experimental researchers in the fields of malignant and non-malignant hematological diseases.
The prestigious José Carreras Foundation-EHA Young Investigator Fellowship provides seed funding for promising young investigators, to encourage and promote quality research in hematology.
Funding
Each grant is for a two-year period. The recipients of the EHA Research Fellowships will receive a total of € 72.000, which will be provided in two annual portions of € 36,000, to be transferred to the host institution. The recipient of the José Carreras Foundation-EHA Young Investigator Fellowship will receive a total of € 84.000, which will be provided in two annual portions of € 42.000 to be transferred to the host institution.
The José Carreras Foundation-EHA Young Investigator Fellowship winner will receive an annual grant of € 42.000 for a two year period. This is the Top Award of the EHA Research Fellowships Program. A maximum of € 3.000 per year is to be paid to the institution for institutional overhead to help defray costs related to administering the project. The remainder of the annual grant, € 39.000, is intended to cover salary expenses up to a maximum of € 30.000 per year, including fringe benefits. A maximum of € 9.000 per year may be used for expenses (e.g. consumables, travel, equipment) necessary for pursuit of the research project.
Guidelines
- Applicants must be an MD or PhD.
- MD applicants must be within 12 years of graduation from medical school and be in training in a hematology sub-specialty or in a post-graduate training program. PhDs must have less than eight years of post-doc experience after graduation and be working within a hematology research laboratory or hematology department. Applicants holding both an MD and a PhD must be within 12 years of MD-graduation.
- The host mentor must assume responsibility and provide guidance for the research.
- The sponsoring facility must be an academic institution. The EHA does not provide institutional overheads.
- Applicants must be, or become, a member of EHA at the time of application.
- Either the home or host institute must be located within Europe.
- Mobility will be positively considered.
Reporting
A brief interim report highlighting the project’s progress and summarizing the use of funds is required at the end of the first year. A final report is required at the end of the second year.
The recipients are required to respond to EHA's request for information related to their career progress following the active grant.
Recipients are expected to present their research findings in oral presentations or posters at the Annual Congress of EHA.
All scientific publications, oral presentations, press releases or other information coming out of the project financed by the grant must include the following statement: “This research was funded partly by the Grant (number or code) awarded by the European Hematology Association."
Selection
Applications will be reviewed by the Fellowships & Grants Committee and an external panel of reviewers.
EHA Research Fellowships are fully sponsored by the European Hematology Association. The José Carreras Foundation-EHA Young Investigator Fellowship is sponsored by the José Carreras Foundation.
