EHA-JSH Fellowship Exchange Program


The EHA-JSH Fellowship Exchange is intended to provide European and Japanse research institutes the opportunity to exchange scientists reciprocally for a short period (up to 4 months).

The EHA-JSH Fellowship Exchange is intended to provide European and Japanese research institutes the opportunity to exchange scientists reciprocally for a short period (up to 4 months). Research should focus on:
Hematological disorders and the differences between Europe and Japan and determining factors.
Exchange of new information and technologies in
the area of basic hematology.
Both clinical and laboratory-based researchers will be considered.
Requirements
Applicant must be an MD or PhD.
Applicant must be an active member of EHA and/or JSH.
Institutional commitment of both home and host institute is required at time of application. A description of the institute’s commitment to facilitating the exchange is required.
The primary preceptor at home and host institute must in the applicant’s proposed research field and must assume responsibility for and provide guidance for the research.
If the exchanging scientist is from Europe, the host institute must be in Japan.  If the exchanging scientist is from Japan, the host institute must be in Europe.
The award period is for a maximum of four months.
The host institute and host mentor must serve as a resource for the exchanging scientist in relocating and finding temporary housing; this support will be part of the award.
Applicant must not have any other career development funding provided by EHA and/or JSH at the time of application or during the period of the award.
Proficiency in English is required.
Terms & Conditions
Awardees must agree to comply to the acceptance conditions and reporting requirements:
Awardees must provide EHA and JSH with financial reports regarding costs and spending of the grant funds. Eligible expenses include: supplies, travel/transport, accommodation and a per diem. All expenditures must be documented with original receipts, vouchers or invoices.
Awardees must provide EHA and JSH with scientific reports regarding the research conducted with the grant funds.
Applicants must agree to respond to follow-up surveys administered by EHA and JSH in the future.
Selection
A joint review committee will select the final awardees for this program
The EHA-JSH Exchange Fellowships are fully sponsored by the European Hematology Association and the Japanese Society of Hematology. 
How to Apply
Submit the required documents of your project proposal (as detailed below) to fellowships.grants@ehaweb.org no later than March 15, 2012. Applicants from Japan should submit their documents to the JSH office (info@jshem.or.jp) no later than March 15, 2012. 
All required documents must be collated and submitted as one single pdf file. The file should be named as follows: LastName_FirstName-FellowshipExchangeProgram2012.pdf.
Notification and announcement of awards at the Annual Congress of EHA in June, 2012
Start of the Fellowship Exchange Project at least within one year after award granting.
Applicant’s project proposal should be in English and include: 
1. JSH-EHA Fellowship Exchange Application Form
2. A biographical sketch or CV of the applicant 
3. Scientific Proposal 
4. Financial/Budget Plan
5. Letter of Agreement, signed by the chairpersons of the department of both institutions and supervisors at the home and host institutes.

Funding

Each grant is intended to support a short exchange period of up to 4 months. The recipients will receive a total of EUR 10.000 or JPY 1,000,000 to be spent in accordance with the budget presented with the application. The grant is mainly designed to cover supplies, travel, housing, and a per diem. The award does not cover the salary of the scientist; it is assumed that salary will be paid by the home institution. Indirect costs will not be covered.

Selection

A joint review committee will select the final awardees for this program.

The EHA-JSH Exchange Fellowships are fully sponsored by the European Hematology Association and the Japanese Society of Hematology.
